Black Swan Racing to Race Ian Williams in Quarter Finals

by Black Swan Racing media

Following a tough round robin stage we have progressed through to the quarter final stage to be sailed in Perth water this afternoon. We will race current world match racing champion Ian Williams of Team Pindar in a best of 5 series for a place in the semi finals.

Following a very good first day with wins over Evan Walker and Mathieu Richard (French Match Racing Team) yesterday was much harder. We started out in the morning with a loss to Adam Minoprio (Black Match Racing) in very light conditions despite getting back into the race after being over early at the start. We suffered the same result against Azzuras Francesso Bruni in our second race.

Sailing inside Perth water has been very challenging unfortunately we made it hard for ourselves on 3 occasions sailing inside the restriction zone and being penalised for the mistake. This did however provide us with another very close race against local rivals Mirsky Racing Team. We lead off the start but with a penalty, by the 2nd leg we built up enough lead to complete our penalty, coming out just in front. We rounded the top mark with a slight lead but missed the chance to gybe first into the new breeze. The boats were neck and neck at the finish but it didn't go our way. However another close and exciting race for the two Perth teams.

Our race against Seve Jarvin proved to be decisive in us making the quarter final stage. Again this race was very close and despite trailing for most of the race we managed regain the lead at the right time and hold of Jarvin to take the win. This result cemented our position in the quarter finals with only two teams being knocked out after stage 1.

We can't wait to take on Williams today with a solid forecast we are in for some great racing.
