Kieler Woche: More light winds on day three for the Kiwis

by Jodie Bakewell-White

Light winds have hampered racing once more on day three of 2010 Kiel Week where three New Zealand boats are currently competing in Germany. Two more days of racing are possible.

Samantha Osborne and her match race crew of Jenna Hansen and Susannah Pyatt sailed just one race overnight and were pleased to record a win against Mulder and crew of the Netherlands.

“Today we focused our frustration from yesterday’s near misses into a win in our only race today,” report the match racing crew. “There was little to no wind for this race (that took almost an hour) however we led start to finish against the Netherlands team."

The disruptions meant no racing for Mike Bullot in the Laser class or Matt Coutts competing in the Finn.

"We tried to get all classes on the water today but every time we thought we could start the wind dropped again," Jobst Richter, Chairman of Kieler Woche explained.

Tomorrow’s forecast is for more light breeze.

Racing continues until Wednesday 23 June in Germany when the Medal Races take place live in front of the harbour.
